Alopecia areata - Image (3)
Image
Alopecia areata. Alopecia areata is probably an autoimmune phenomenon, where bald areas of variable size appear in any hair-growing area of the body. Limited cases have a good tendency for spontaneous healing; in more extensive cases, e.g. alopecia totalis or alopecia universalis, the prognosis is less favourable. Therapeutic trials have had variable success.
