Image
Actinic keratosis on the lip. Actinic keratosis on the lipstick area of the lower lip. A persistently recurring chapped and peeling skin change in one and the same area of the lip is a cause for more thorough examination and biopsies. Cultivation for herpes is also worthwhile. The area of the skin change should be palpated carefully. If a solid lump is detected, squamous cell carcinoma may be present making further examinations urgent.
