Acoustic reflectometry to detect middle ear effusion. Acoustic reflectometry is a quick method for determining the mobility of the tympanic membrane. The vertical axis of the LED display shows the reflectivity (the amount of sound energy reflected) of the tympanic membrane. Values exceeding 6 suggest middle ear effusion.
