A red urticaria wheal (hives). In acute forms of urticaria the aetiology often can be found or at least suspected. In chronic urticaria (lasting for more than 1 month) a specific cause seldom is found, although there is no general agreement on this matter. Antihistamine drugs are the therapy of choice.
